    In July 2001, my 10-year-old dream came true: I boarded a luxury river cruise ship among wealthy Western tourists to sail up the most beautiful section of the Upper Danube from Budapest to Passau in Germany spiced with unexpected surprises. The opportunity had been open in previous years, but either the brevity of the journey or its overcomplication (hydrofoil to Vienna, tourist-class boat from there) kept getting pushed back until we found the ideal offer: an 8-day voyage, arriving/departing in Budapest, for 160,000 HUF.
